Rhapsody is about growth and development, in both the musical and spiritual sense. The work starts with the piano and orchestra locked in a strict, almost conservative dialogue. As time passes, the soloist develops and introduces more unique musical ideas. This conversational nature of moving and varying music between pianist and orchestra lies at the heart of the piece.
